Quarter-sawn White Oak (QSWO)
A classic choice, favored for its durability and unique appearance.
The quartersawing technique exposes the medullary rays that radiate from the center of the tree. These create the signature decorative, rippled shapes.
- Quarter-sawn boards are characterized by parallel grain because they are cut at an angle to the tree's rings.
- In contrast, plain-sawn boards typically feature broad, arching "cathedral" patterns.
White oak naturally features grain variations like stripes and flecks. If you want highly consistent grain, you may prefer an alternative wood.
Plain-sawn white oak is also available, if you prefer fewer rays - just reach out.
Maple
Sourced from the inner heartwood of the maple log, our maple features a stunning, organic spectrum of colors—ranging from warm tans to deep mocha browns, balanced by creamy white or gray streaks.
Maple is defined by its distinct grain irregularities, showcasing beautiful mineral streaking and deep color variations. Due to these unique grain patterns, Maple accepts stain beautifully but unpredictably, resulting in some areas looking considerably darker than others.
Because it features more natural character than wood taken from the outer rings of the tree, it offers a truly one-of-a-kind look.
